Mullets exit Senior Cup at Three Bridges

Arundel Football Club endured a frustrating evening on Tuesday when they exited the Sussex Senior Cup 4-0 at Ryman League Three Bridges.

Mullets created several chances throughout the game and should have been ahead, before Bridges scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half.

They then struck a third shortly after half-time, before adding a fourth later in the half.

Arundel boss Brett Torode said: “It was one of the most frustrating games of football I’ve been involved in. We played really well for 40 minutes and should have been three or four up.

“We felt there was a clear foul in the build-up to their first goal when Jordan Dudas was tripped and they then scored from a corner shortly afterwards.

“To go in 2-0 down at half-time was really frustrating as we’d dominated the half.

“They scored from another corner early in the second half, although we still created chances throughout the second half and we just need to be more clinical in front of goal.

“I was pleased with the way we played but we’ve got to start scoring more goals. We created some good chances and we’ve lost the game 4-0 and that’s the trouble.”

Grant Thetford headed straight at the Bridges keeper from six yards on 10 minutes, before Lewis Jenkins got through one-on-one but shot wide.

Ryan Warr then saw a 20-yarder hit the underside of the bar and bounce on the line, before he also had a volley saved.

Mullets were made to pay for those missed chances when Bridges struck twice in the closing stages of the first half.

Bridges then added a third but Arundel continued to create chances. They were denied by the woodwork again when James Wotherspoon’s shot hit a post and rolled along the line, before Jenkins shot another one-on-one opening wide and Bridges then sealed their win with a fourth.

Arundel entertain Rye United in County League Division 1 on Saturday, before travelling to Hassocks on Tuesday.
