Murray netted 54 league goals for Brighton from 2008 to 2011, before netting 44 league goals for Crystal Palace from 2011 to 2015.

Murray returned to Albion in 2016 and has since struck on 45 occasions in the league and Seagulls manager Chris Hughton believes it would be a fitting if Murray reached the 100-goal landmark for Brighton at Selhurst Park.

He said: "It would be (a fitting way to hit landmark) and if we could just stop the press conference now and that’s how it is I think we would be delighted. But I think Crystal Palace might have something to say about that.

"If we are talking about Glenn, I think it’s noce for a player when a player can go back to a club where he has played and is appreciated there as well. Both sets of supporters appreciate what he has given both clubs, and I think that’s really nice for a player."

Murray, 35, has scored just twice - both against Fulham in January - since the beginning of December but Hughton has no concerns regarding his forward.

He said: "The good thing for Glenn is that he has been there for chances.

"Even if we go back to the Fulham game when Glenn scored two goals but on another day could have had another couple, really good positions.

"Of course at Leicester, he had good opportunities and had probably our best opportunity before Florin scored against Huddersfield.

"When you are a striker, I think the biggest concern is when you are not getting the chances, or when you are not in the position to get chances. He is. So from that point of view, if you are that striker, and particularly someone like Glenn whose strength is scoring goals, he would be more disappointed if he wasn’t getting those chances."

Hughton added he has confidence Murray will continue to score goals whatever his age: "I think as regards his output, there is no difference.

"He’s still working as hard and getting into the areas, and these are recent games.

"These are opportunities he has missed in recent games so he is still getting in the right positions. And when you’re that type of player, Glenn will always score goals, no matter what age he is."
