Albion were a goal down when Murray received the ball in the six-yard box with the goal at his mercy but somehow managed to skew his shot over the bar.

Leicester went on to double their lead before Davy Propper’s first Albion goal halved the deficit. Brighton pressed for an equaliser and Murray sent another effort into the side netting as the Foxes held on for all three points.

On the defeat, Murray said: “I think at times we had control of the game. We let them score early on which was against our game plan and after that we were chasing the game.

“I hold my hands up. I miss a chance, shortly after that we go 2-0 down then Davy Propper drags us back in the game. I thought from there we played quite well without creating too much.

"It's another disappointing night.”

On his miss, Albion’s top scorer said: “I’m big enough and old enough now, I’ve scored goals and missed goals as well and it’s just about putting yourself in that position and backing yourself to score in the next game.

“You’ve just got to take that on the chin and tonight I could have done better with at least one of the chances. But we’ve got to defend as a team a little bit better and not leave ourselves with a mountain to climb.

“Pascal (Gross) laid it back and I’ve just gone for power and I know Schmeichel isn’t in the goal anymore and I’ve connected too sweet, leaned back that little bit too much and it’s just sailed over unfortunately.”

Albion will look to end a seven-game winless run when they entertain bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield on Saturday.
