Murray: There are no givens in season climax

Albion striker Glenn Murray feels Albion will have to be on top of their game in the remaining eight matches as they bid for promotion to the Premier League.

The Seagulls host Blackburn Rovers tomorrow and then Birmingham at the Amex on Tuesday. They currently sit just one point behind leaders Newcastle and six points ahead of third-placed Huddersfield, who have a game in hand.

Murray, who has scored 18 goals this season, said: “We’ve got four games left at the Amex, two back-to-back and we need to make the most of those games.

“I looked at the teams we’re playing and six of the last eight games are against teams in the bottom ten, so they’ve all got things to play for.

“Outsiders can look at the fixtures and go ‘Brighton will win that and Brighton will win that’ but it’s not like that. Come the end of the season, everyone has got different things to fight for.

“Some teams maybe haven’t got anything to fight for and are almost on their holidays but play better without any pressure. Then you’ve got teams fighting for their lives and for their wages next year and to be in the division.

“There’s no givens in this business end of the season and we’ll have to be fully on it to pick up the points we want.”

Murray added the sole focus is promotion and winning the title would just be a bonus: “Our objective is to get promoted, if that comes with the title then brilliant. If it’s in second, five points behind Newcastle, it wouldn’t matter as long as we get where we need to be.

“I say five points behind Newcastle but who’s to say they’ll win it, you just never know what’s going to happen in these last eight games. I’m sure they’ll be a lot of twists and turns along the way.”

Full-backs Bruno, Gaetan Bong and Sebastien Pocognoli are all back available for the Blackburn game.
