The attacking midfielder made a decent impression as he came into Paul Cook’s side for Saturday’s 2-1 win over Cambridge United.

Now the 24-year-old is looking to build on that as his team head to Exeter.

Naismith has made just four league starts after arriving from Accrington Stanley last summer.

But now he’s out to build on that, with the likes of Gary Roberts and Adam McGurk in the treatment room.

‘I’m just glad to be back in the mix and in contention,’ said Naismith.

‘I’m happy to be back training with the boys and enjoying myself.

‘It was most important to get the win on Saturday and I was part of that.

‘It was a massive game and we knew how big it was going into it.

‘I was so pleased to play a big part in getting that win.

‘Now I’d like to get as much game time as I can.

‘Obviously, the team is the most important thing.

‘But I’d love to help the boys as much as I can.

‘There are good players at this club and it’s about the team putting a run together.

‘It’s a massive 14 games.’

Naismith has recovered from a kick suffered on the knee on Saturday to remain in contention tomorrow tonight.

Paul Cook has made it clear Pompey’s passing game may have to take a back seat – and Naismith knows it’s all about results with 14 games left.

He added: ‘You put a lot of pressure on yourself.

‘The team puts a lot of pressure on itself to play in the right way.

‘But I guess it’s about getting results at the end of the day. We’ve, first and foremost, got to turn up every game and get the result.

‘Hopefully, we can do that first and then play well for the fans.’
