Golds lifted the Sussex County League title for the second time in their history last season but Mark Bennett resigned as manager just a few days later.

Littlehampton swiftly appointed striker Gaskin as their new boss and the 24-year-old is looking to continue the club’s success.

He said: “It’s a great honour and I am delighted that I have been chosen to manage this club.

“Rob McAlees (chairman) has shown the faith he has in me and it’s important that I repay him with success on the pitch.

“Littlehampton is a club that means a lot to me and I have been here on and off since I was 16 years of age.

“I heard Rob mention a few times that he wanted a local person to become manager, which I am, and it’s a great opportunity for me.

“The side that we have here are a group of friends and last year we had some success, with winning the league.

“It’s great to be here and I just want to carry on from last season.”

Gaskin admitted that a few members of the title-winning side may move on but he is hopeful that the core of the team will remain together.

With some new additions, he believes they will put up a good defence of their title and said: “I think a few players will move on over the summer but I’m confident that the vast majority from last year will be here again next season.

“It’s really important that we replace those players that we lose with quality.

“Next year is going to be tough because everyone will be out to beat us but we will be ready for that.”

This will be Gaskin’s first venture into management and he said: “I’m confident in myself and, if I did not believe that I was capable of doing this job, then I would not have accepted it.

“I’m just hopeful that I can repay the people at the club for the faith and trust they have shown in me.”
