New Burgess Hill Town signings 'will be assets to the team'

Burgess Hill boss Simon Wormull hopes his new signings will prevent his side from '˜getting too comfortable' as they look to move further away from the Bostik Premier relegation zone.

Wormull recruited four new players during the week with the captures of Keano Deacon, Boris Kipeya, Dan Choules and Brian Galach.

Forward Deacon joins from Stalybridge Celtic after spending time at Fleetwood Town as a pro, while Belgian defender Kipeya was acquired from Cheshunt.

Seventeen-year-old striker Galach joined on a short-term loan from Crawley Town and young defender Choules has signed on a dual contract from Woking.

Deacon, Choules, and Galach all started in Saturday’s win over Mertsham, with Deacon bagging a goal on debut.

Wormull was pleased to have the new boys on board but felt that they needed time to settle.

“Brian has only played two games in the past couple of months so it’s going to take them a couple of games to get their fitness.

“Coming from where they are, this level is like going at 100mph and you’ve got some horrible players that want to kick you and punch you. Once they’ve got used to that I think all of them will be assets to the team.”

Wormull also believes that the new acquisitions will stop any Hill malaise as they look to continue their good recent form.

He added: “When we were getting the guys in, we had Aaron (Smith-Joseph) struggling with a back injury and Andre (McCollin) had a sickness bug so at that time we had no wingers at all so we were looking to get a bit of cover.

“We bought Dan Choules in just for a bit more experience at right-back. It’s more really to get a bit of competition in the squad because the position we’re in we don’t want anyone getting too comfortable.

“We want to push each other to put that standard as high as we can and we’re getting there, but we don’t want to rest on our laurels.

“What happens then is you have your honeymoon period of getting a few results and then it drops back to mediocrity and we don’t want to allow that now.”

The Hillians travel to Corinthian Casuals on Saturday. Casuals currently sit 13th in the Bostik Premier with 20 points from 14 games.

Wormull is expecting a hard-fought encounter but he believes his team’s change in mindset will spur his side on.

He said: “It’s going to be a tough game as they’ve got a good young side. We’re coming into a period where we’ve got a lot of games, hence why we’ve added to the squad so we can give people a little rest.

“I think we’ve played ten games in five-and-a-half weeks which is ridiculous when you think about it.

“We’re in that mindset now where we think ‘we’re stubborn and we don’t want to be beaten’. None of the group want to be beaten and that’s a great starting point to come from.

“If we start building on that then hopefully we will have more positive results.”
