Eddie, 61, replaces Mathew Major who recently vacated the position, following his election as chairman of the Sussex County FA.

During his time involved with the game Eddie has held a variety of roles and positions throughout the breadth of football, from playing, refereeing and coaching in the local parks, to chairing the East Sussex Football League and tutoring the referees of the future.

Eddie said: “Looking back on it I suppose my main interests have been in the refereeing side and I have taken great delight in seeing young referees like Carl Brook come through the ranks, to reach the top level of the game.

“I stand for fairness at all levels whether as a player, referee, administrator or supporter and I am fully supportive of our new chairman’s comments and ideas.”

Eddie’s involvement as a player sadly came to an end due to injury, but his passion for the game meant he couldn’t just leave it at that and he joined the committee of Silverton Rangers in 1974.

From there he went on to join and manage Hollington Youth from under-11s to under-16s whilst completing management, coaching, first aid and treatment and rehabilitation for sport injury courses.

Those qualifications led him to Stamco Football Club, which later became St Leonards Stamco, where he operated as a coach before joining the committee and then elected as their deputy chairman in 1982.

The club reached the Southern Counties Combination League, but after their first year in the Southern League Eddie resigned to focus on another of his roles in the game, refereeing.

Whilst still operating as an active referee on the Sussex County Football League, Eddie has been an FA Registered Referee Tutor for the past twelve years, and it was this position that led him to join the council of the Sussex County FA in 1998, following some encouragement from past chairman John Cornford.

Residing in Rye, East Sussex, Eddie maintains a keen interest in the wellbeing of local clubs and has served on the Hastings Football Association Committee since 1992, and is at present their chairman, a position he also holds within the East Sussex Football League.
