YM killed the game off by half time, with an early strike from top goalscorer Nick Sullivan and two goals just before the break from Dan Sullivan and Dave Brown leaving them in cruise control.

YM manager Peter Buckland said: “It was a good win and a typical YM performance. We controlled the game from start to end and I was very pleased.

“After the debacle down at Ringmer I felt that we really needed to get back on track and we did just that.

Newhaven are a good, young side who are fit and willing to close you down all over the pitch, and they will still upset a few people, especially at home.”

Striker Sullivan was fed through in the game’s opening exchanges and he made no mistake in firing YM ahead with an excellent finish.

Sullivan then turned provider for brother Dan, who controlled smartly, swivelled and slammed the ball home to double YM’s advantage, before Brown added an intricate individual goal moments later.

Buckland added: “The game was won by half time and all three goals were absolute crackers.

“We were a bit wasteful in the second half and could have had another couple quite easily, but we were always in control.”

“We’ve got an outside chance of promotion still, but we’ve got to be looking at winning every league game for the rest of the season.”
