Newhaven and Ringmer shared the points in one of only 6 fixtures played in the county league on Saturday, due to the recent bad weather.

Plaudits must be given to the Newhaven ground staff for there efforts, after starting work on the pitch at 7.30am. (Let’s hope they enjoyed their well deserved beer after the game).

It was heavy going and the ball did not run true in the middle of the park, which caused frustration to players and spectators alike, but the effort and quality the players produced was exemplary and not deserving of a goalless outcome.

Ringmer like to play a free flowing game but due to the conditions changed their way of playing and went the tougher route, by battling it out against there volatile opponents.

Ringmer had the better of the early chances and efforts from Seb Saunders and Louis Pople were well saved by the Newhaven keeper. Both teams tried to keep playing to the wings, with McClean a threat for Ringmer and Robinson the same for Newhaven, but their threat diminished as the game wore on.

Billy Trickett and Louis Pople worked tirelessly to create, but Newhaven’s defence would not give an inch and the first half ended goalless.

The 2nd half continued as the first and early on Seb Saunders broke into the area, but before he could put away a shot he twisted his ankle in the process and unfortunately was substituted, dampening Ringmer’s goal threat. It was getting difficult to get any flow to the game. Various substitutions were made, with players getting tired and bookings were becoming a regular feature. The match was making it’s way to a draw ,but this could have changed as we approached injury time, as Newhaven had 2 glorious opportunities to win the game. However, two marvellous saves from Ringmer keeper Jack Lovick, saved the day. At the end of the day, it would have been an injustice if Newhaven had taken all three points and a draw was a fair result

Ringmer now look forward to there Sussex Senior Cup tie on Wednesday 22nd January ,when local rivals Peacehaven entertain them K.O 7.45pm.
