The Dockers followed up the previous weekend’s 3-0 win at AFC Uckfield Town with another fast start and ended the game with another clean sheet.

Just like the previous weekend, Newhaven were 2-0 up with just over 16 minutes played, with Lee Robinson scoring both goals for the home side.

The first, after just eight minutes, saw Robinson latch on to a Seb Saunders through ball, round the visiting goalkeeper before sliding the ball in from a tight angle.

And the second again saw Robinson beat the offside trap, as Henry Watson’s pass put the striker through and he calmly slotted past the on-rushing ‘keeper.

The visitors always posed a threat from set pieces, but a determined Newhaven side saw out any dangers with Jake Buss’ goal rarely troubled.

The hosts did have chances to extend their lead further, but no more goals followed, and Newhaven joint-manager Sean Breach was particularly pleased with another shut-out at the back.

“I am over the moon with the three points,” said Breach. “I really believe Alfold will be a tough game for a lot of sides this season, so it was great to see us control the game from the beginning, and, like last week, see the game off early on again.

“Lee Robinson was at his best again and scored two great goals. And from then on, we were comfortable and Jake Buss in goal had very little to do. Again, similar to last week, we were really pleased with the maturity of the players to see the game out as they did.

“I am really happy with the clean sheet, making it five clean sheets in eight league games. It took us 24 games last season to reach five clean sheets in the league, and it’s something we have spoken about and something we knew we needed to improve on. So, I am delighted with this.”

Newhaven are at home again in league action on Saturday 24th October as they host East Preston at the Trafalgar Ground, 3pm kick off.
