N'Gala: I want to be part of title tilt

N’Gala assessed the quality of the squad he has joined at Fratton Park – and is adamant the Blues are good enough to pick up the League Two crown.

The 23-year-old is determined to be part of the bid to make it out of English football’s basement division this season.

Guy Whittingham’s side got off to a poor start in the league last weekend as they fell to a 4-1 home defeat to Oxford.

That was followed with an improved performance but second loss at Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Those two losses have seen prophets of doom emerge to predict a bleak campaign for Whittingham’s men.

But N’Gala is adamant Pompey have the quality to make a big impact this season.

The powerhouse defender signed a month’s agreement last week and made an impressive first start against the Cherries on Tuesday.

Now the Londoner is chasing a longer-term deal as he aims to be part of a bid to get out of the division.

N’Gala said: ‘It’s a month initially but I definitely want to stay at Portsmouth Football Club.

‘It’s an amazing football club with great fans.

‘They were brilliant on Saturday and were brilliant again at Bournemouth.

‘I definitely want to be a part of things here.

‘I think there is more than enough quality here to win the division.

‘That is the target we have to set ourselves and nothing short of that – because we can definitely do it.

‘It’s not only the club’s history but the players we have here.

‘We’ve assembled good quality players for this division who can do well.

‘I know Pat (Agyemang) and Ricky Holmes and I know a lot of the lads from playing against them.

‘We have a very good squad here and I’m pleased with what I’ve seen of the lads.

‘There’s no doubt we can be very successful this year.’

A move for N’Gala came about after talks with Ricardo Rocha broke down.

Pompey moved quickly for the West Ham trainee, with assistant manager Steve Allen the link.

N’Gala is determined to repay the faith shown in him.

‘I heard a few whispers and I know Steve Allen from when I was younger at West Ham,’ said N’Gala.

‘He knows me well and what I can bring to the team.

‘I’m glad he pushed for me to come down here.

‘I’m not sure what is going on as of yet, but I hope it is resolved quickly because I’d love to stay here.

‘I’m in a hotel at the moment but hopefully I can get settled in if I stay longer term.

‘The next move is going to be important in my career.

‘I want to show the manager and fans what I can do.’
