Lewis Carey may have been Borough’s Number One – in both senses – this season, but there were plenty of other glittering prizes handed out at last week’s annual dinner (writes Kevin Anderson).

The popular goalkeeper swept the board with all three top awards – Supporters’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player, and Manager’s Player.

But while his team-mates had to be content with warm words from boss Tommy Widdrington – whose speech gave every single player a mention – there was also recognition for those who keep the club running.

Veteran groundsman and committee man Mick Syndercombe, a driving force since the earliest years of Langney Sports, was named Clubman of the Year.

And Borough’s unique father and daughter pair of Nick and Lydia Redman picked up club service awards.

Nick is goalkeeping coach, while student daughter Lydia is the Sports’ highly rated club photographer.

Youth midfielder Jacob Merrick – who has represented England Schools this season – was named Players’ Player in the Under-18s, and James Coyle won the Managers’ Player award.

From the Academy Reds Ieuan Strong was named Players’ Player and Richie Welch took Managers’ Player.

And in the younger age-group Academy Blues Ash West collected Players’ Player, and Kalvin Brooks earned Managers’ Player.
