The Pirates kicked-off their Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two programme with a good 2-1 win away to Mile Oak in Marc Munday’s first league game as manager.

Mile Oak - who had won their previous league encounter - struck the post in the 11th minute, but Bexhill drew first blood two minutes later through Jamie Crone. Steve Johnson struck seven minutes after that to give Bexhill a 2-0 half time lead.

Danny Curd halved Mile Oak’s deficit 10 minutes into the second period and the hosts would have drawn level midway through the half had it not been for a fine save by Bexhill goalkeeper Yarni Camara.

Bexhill went down to 10 men when substitute Linton Rogers was shown a straight red card and that became nine after Josh Elliott-Noye received a second yellow, but the visitors held on for a hard-earned win.

Elsewhere in the same division, Little Common surrendered a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 away to Haywards Heath Town, making it two league defeats out of two.

Common dominated the early part of the Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two fixture without creating too many clearcut chances and Heath opened the scoring through Jordan Peskett in the 28th minute.

Russell Eldridge saw a 25-yard free kick cannon off the crossbar for Common, while Steve Morris had an effort cleared off the line and struck the post with a deflected shot.

The equaliser arrived at the beginning of the second period when a low cross by the impressive Paul Feakins was diverted into his own net by a Heath defender.

Rob Clarke headed over when well placed for Heath before Lewis Hole latched on to a throughball and slotted beyond the advancing goalkeeper to put the Commoners 2-1 up. Minutes later it was 3-1 when Hole picked out Eldridge on the edge of the box and the player-manager thumped home.

Clarke reduced Heath’s arrears with 10 minutes left following an error from Zack McEniry. Common looked as though they would see out the victory, but with 89 minutes on the clock, Heath found an equaliser when Tom Kilner-Brown slotted into the bottom corner. Clarke sealed Heath’s victory deep into added time after bursting into the box and firing into the bottom corner.
