Pagham make county cup progress at expense of Worthing

Pagham beat Worthing United 4-1 in the Sussex Senior Cup '“ but Worthing were far from disgraced.

The Lions went ahead within three minutes, James Temple striking a fine opening goal. They struck again on the quarter-hour when Dan Moseby’s midfield mastery was rewarded.

Worthing hit back nine minutes later as Dave Herbert’s run and shot gave them hope.

The goal of the game came on the half-hour when Daren Pearce struck home a sublime shot. In the dying seconds of the half, Worthing could have scored again, a header going just wide of the post.

A change of formation for Pagham after the break signalled a change of fortunes for the visitors.

An almost-endless stream of free-kicks gave them chance after chance to score again, and they went close on 74 minutes as former Lion Billy Rayner hit the bar from range.

The Lions put the result beyond doubt on 83 minutes as Michael Frangou capped a fine display with a penalty, awarded after Scott Murfin was bought down.
