Pagham spoil East Preston's perfect start

Pagham became the first team to take points off East Preston this season as a spirited second half saw the Lions draw 1-1 in a Sussex League first-division clash at Nyetimber Lane.

The visitors had won all seven of their previous league games but the Lions made the early running.

East Preston opened the scoring in the ninth minute as Jordan Clark took his chance well.

For the Lions, Howard Neighbour and James Ford went close but ex-Rock Anthony Ender in the visitors’ goal was taking care of anything the Lions threw at him.

Callum Cutler tried his luck from long range on 37 minutes.

Ben Anderton replaced Luke Kilner at the break and the home side had a shot cleared off the line.

Five minutes from time, Neighbour got his eighth league goal of the season converting a ball into the area.

He followed it up with a yellow card for back-chat.

PAGHAM: Smallpiece, Buckland, Ford, Pearce, Jones, Booker, Briggs, Cutler (N Murfin 81), Temple, Neighbour, Kilner (Anderton 46). Subs: Cox, Williams, Binfield.
