Peacehaven rounded off a superb season by clinching a Sussex League and Cup double last night.

The Tye lifted the the John O’Hara League Cup with a 1-0 win over Littlehampton Town – a second success in less than a week following their magnificent achievement in winning the Sussex County Football League championship last Saturday.

A hard-fought final at Lancing FC’s Culver Road ground was won by a Joe Dryer goal on 18 minutes.

Dryer’s shot into the top right hand of the Golds goal from the left edge of the area was too good for the Littlehampton keeper, who was otherwise his team’s man of the match.

Littlehampton weren’t helped by the sendings-off of Daniel Hand and Ben Gray but Peacehaven dominated the first half and would have scored more but for several fine saves from the Golds stopper.

Littlehampton came out strongly in the second half and pushed for an equaliser but it wasn’t to be and Peacehaven deservedly completed a magnificent double.

Fittingly, the Sports Park outfit’s awards evening is tonight (Saturday) where there will be no shortage of silverware to admire.

Peacehaven FC tweeted a picture of the league and cup trophies taking pride of place in the Piddinghoe Avenue clubhouse (pictured above).

Tributes were paid to the club by admirers on the social networking site.

Phillip Blackwell (@PhilBlackwell) said: “@PT_FC congrats to the club, an amazing achievement” while Dep Mayor Peacehaven (@MerryElayne) added: “@PT_FC congratulations and well done to everyone involved, brilliant.”

But Steeno1 (‏@Steeno1) summed it up perfectly with “@PT_FC looking amazing, well deserved silverware for an exceptional Team great boss, wonderful coaches and all the staff. #proud”
