Peacehaven United add name to impressive list of Mid Sussex Football League’s premier knockout trophy winner

For the first time in a month the Gray Hooper Holt LLP Mid Sussex Football League completed a full complement of scheduled fixtures on Saturday (30 March).

And this, with a further 42 matches played on Easter Monday and dry weather forecasted for the next week or so, has put the League back on track to achieve its aim of completing this season’s league programme.

Saturday’s matches also produced the missing finalists needed to enable the League’s Stubbins Cup Final between Wivelsfield Green and Copthorne II to go ahead next Wednesday (10 April) at Leylands Park, Burgess Hill kick off 7.30 p.m. and the Somerville and Mowatt Cup Finals the following week.

Wednesday (26 March) saw the final of the Montgomery Cup, the League’s premier challenge trophy, at Leylands Park, where Peacehaven United added their name for the first time to the impressive list of previous winners in the competition’s 93-year history.

Against holders Balcombe, the scores were locked at 3-3 at the end of normal time but further goals in extra time secured Peacehaven a 5-3 win. The victors’ goalscorers were Curtis Ford, Luke Hamon, Clement James, Ryan Smith and Jamie Torbet, while George Evans, Edward Murrills and Wayne Ruzicka scored the Balcombe goals.
