Pebbles on more of a march than just a roll...

BOGNOR’S under-18 footballers had a superb end to a superb season.

Already winners of the Ryman Youth South title, they have now become champions of champions by beating Woking to win the overall league crown.

The Pebbles, as the young Rocks are known, showed no fear in the first half – the woodwork denied Tom Atkinson and Callum Overton and a clearance off the line stopped the Pebbles from going in at half-time ahead.

In the second half Woking came out fighting and were the better team for 25 minutes. Sam McAlpine in goal made two superb saves while captain Nathan Hawker and fellow centre-back Dale Hayes were immense.

In the 70th minute, a cross-field pass fell to Ben Mendoza, who hit a superb half-volley from the edge of box which went straight into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 as a through-ball to sub Ben Mepham saw him lob the keeper from 25 yards for his 22nd goal of the season.

Bognor brought on fresh legs in Joe Kilhams and Tyler Nightingale and in the final ten minutes, Woking threw everything at Bognor with keeper Sammy McAlpine claiming everything in the air and Hayes bossing the aerial balls.
