Pelling to make last appearance

Josh Pelling is poised to make his final appearance for Sidley United tonight (Tuesday).

The accomplished goalkeeper has been a big success during his short time with the Blues and will be joining Eastbourne Town after the trip to St Francis Rangers.

Sidley manager John Lambert said: “He goes with my blessing. I know he wants to play higher and I’m glad he’s going because he deserves to play at a higher level.”

Lambert will demand a massive improvement from his players following the abject display in losing 3-0 at home to Horsham YMCA on Saturday.

And they will need it because perennial strugglers St Francis have won their last two Sussex County Football League Division One matches and are unbeaten in their last five. Chris Rea should return from injury.

Rye United, by contrast, will be seeking more of the same when they entertain Peacehaven & Telscombe in the same division tonight.

The Quarterboys were 4-1 winners at home to Lingfield on Saturday thanks largely to an Andy Atkin hat-trick which took his goal tally to six in four games.

Rye are fourth in the table and trail second-placed Peacehaven only on goal difference having played an extra match.

The two teams were due to meet in a John O’Hara League Challenge Cup second round tie at The Salts last week, but that was postponed owing to a waterlogged pitch.
