The former Crawley Down Gatwick boss has been appointed at Bartholomew Way following the resignation of Danny Redman.

Despite an unbeaten start to the season, Redman, who had previously served as both first and reserve manager in 2012, stepped down for personal reasons.

Penlington took charge of the club this week after Roffey drew 1-1 with Upper Beeding on Saturday.

Roffey chairman Dave Jeal said: “Danny Redman resigned through personal reasons and we have appointed Tim Penlington. His last job was with Crawley Down Gatwick and has been out of football for a little while.

“I have known Tim and my son has played for him at Crawley Down Gatwick, so I know what he can bring to the club. Apart from one of the players, he is new to them and they are new to him. It’s a fresh start for all of them.

“He is going to have to take the players on face value and what he sees at training. I think when the players get to know Tim, they will be very happy with the appointment.”

Roffey, who finished second last season, missed out on promotion due to not having their ground improvements carried out by the required deadline.

While Jeal admits he is still aggrieved that other sides are yet to meet those gradings, he said Horsham District Council’s decision on their floodlights is imminent.

He added: “On the positive side, I do feel Tim is a good fit and will bring ideas on how to take the club on.”
