Pompey skipper's dance moves may return

The Blues skipper produced a bewildering goal celebration after netting his maiden goal for the club in the 2-2 draw at Cheltenham a fortnight ago, with his own interpretation of dance fusion.

It seems the idea came after scoring in a training session, but Ertl believes his dancing is a pioneering step in the evolving world of trademark goal celebrations.

While it’s unlikely to catch on – and his moves may not have been everyone’s cup of tea – it certainly raised a smile for those who saw it.

He said: ‘There are so many celebrations out there.

‘I could do a heart, do the flying thing or slide on my knees – they are already out there.

‘But a nice little dance with a robot at the end, show me one player who does it!

‘At least I gave The News something to write about so it was nice to see people telling me I needed dance lessons!

‘I wanted to introduce something new and to keep a promise to the lads after I did it in training.

‘It was at the top of my agenda to score a goal, so I’m glad to tick it off.

‘If I score again, we’ll see what happens.’

While the Austrian skipper is keen to enjoy a laugh and does not take himself too seriously, that changes as he focuses on Pompey picking up a second straight win tomorrow.

He said: ‘We put in a great performance at Burton and it seems like ages since we played at Fratton Park.

‘We haven’t got the results we wanted there as yet but the way we have played is really encouraging.

‘Now we need to follow that win at Burton and get a win in front of our great fans.

‘Fleetwood have spent a lot of money and they have a lot of good players who have played in higher leagues.

‘It’s a really, really good test for us but we need to continue this unbeaten run.

‘We’ve got make sure we win our home games.’
