Pre-season training? There's no point yet, says Hastings boss

Chris Agutter says there is no point in Hastings United starting pre-season training before they know when the new campaign will begin.

Some teams have already resumed training under various distancing guidelines, but there’s no word on when the season proper will get under way.

Agutter is content to wait until he knows more about dates. And he can do so knowing most of his 2020-21 squad is in place. He has convinced the vast majority of last season’s team to rejoin and has added new faces too.

Jack Steventon, a tall, powerful and technical defender, is the latest recruit, joining from VCD Athletic.

Agutter said: “I’m looking at probably one more new signing and we’re quite far down the line with that.”

He added: “There’s no point to pre-season training yet. If you start now and the season is delayed further it would make for a very long pre-season – no-one wants that. We have good lads who’ve looked after themselves.”

Hastings hope to attract a couple of Football League teams for friendlies and hope to visit Weymouth and Sheppey for games.
