Price expects changes at Rye

The Quarterboys missed out on a first ever Sussex County Football League Division One title after losing a winner-takes-all decider away to Three Bridges on Saturday.

Despite posting their highest ever Division One points total, Rye were also denied a second successive runners-up finish because Lancing pipped them for second after winning 6-0 away to AFC Uckfield.

Price, who has now completed four seasons as Rye manager, said: “If I’m in charge there will be changes; changes in personnel, changes in a lot of things, how I conduct things as well, the discipline side of things.”

Price guided Rye to promotion as Division Two champions in 2009/10 before taking them to the FA Vase quarter-finals and John O’Hara League Cup final, as well as second place in Division One, in 2010/11.

Rye won the Sussex RUR Charity Cup for only the second time in their history and first since 1968 courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Selsey on Tuesday, last week, on top of accruing 84 points from 38 league games.

Asked if he wanted to carry on for a fifth campaign, Price said: “I did have this thought. If we had won the league I would’ve probably thought about it longer because what else could I do?

“But I think I do want to stay. I love the club, and I love Pat and Clive (Taylor, vice-chairperson and chairman). At the end of the day I’ve got to speak to Clive this week. He might have different ideas.”

Rye ended the season with 99 league goals and 135 in all competitions. Price thinks it will be quite a different Rye side which takes the field in 2012/13.
