Propper happy to get off the mark for Brighton

Brighton & Hove Albion midfield Davy Propper was pleased to finally get off the mark for the club at Leicester on Tuesday but would have swapped his goal for three points instead, writes James Wootton.

Albion slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Leicester despite Propper’s best efforts to pull Albion back into the game. His 66th minute strike was his first in his 18 months for the Seagulls but the Dutchman was left with mixed emotions following the defeat.

He said: “I’m happy to get rid off the zero [goals]. Some of the players were teasing me so it’s nice to score the goal but I’d rather three points but that’s normal.

“If you see the chances, we had some big chances, overall we didn’t perform really well.”

Albion’s shift into a 4-3-3 formation has seen Propper take up a slightly more advanced role, but the change has come with its problems.

He said: “That’s the difference, we changed and we play much better but we concede a little too many goals and we have some difficulties to score goals.

“it’s not that we played very bad, that’s the tricky thing. I think for now we just need to go back, concede less goals and then it’s easier to score one and win a game.”

Albion lost German midfielder Pascal Gross early in the second half through injury, and Propper considers himself lucky after he was the recipient of a strong challenge from Jamie Vardy, which saw the England international cautioned.

The Albion midfielder said: “I was lucky my foot wasn’t on the ground, my leg swings a little bit with it otherwise my knee was gone.”
