Radley in line for Sidley debut

Ben Radley could well make his debut for Sidley United tonight (Tuesday).

The former Rye United and Hastings United defender signed for the Blues yesterday and goes straight into the squad for the Sussex RUR Charity Cup second round tie at home to Newhaven.

Daniyar Tashpulatov is set to play in goal after joining on a dual-registration basis with Hastings United, while Kenny Pogue is included despite coming off as a precaution against Loxwood at the weekend.

Sidley manager John Lambert admits it will initially be strange to take charge of the side having told the players after the Loxwood game - which Sidley lost 6-4 having been 4-1 up at half time - that he was quitting only to have a change of heart.

Lambert said: “It’s going to be a tough game for us. They’re a decent outfit and they’ve got quite a bit of pace about them. But if they (the players) are as hurt as I am and as embarrassed as I am, there should be a reaction.”

Sidley are fifth-from-bottom of Sussex County Football League Division One with 11 points from as many games, while Newhaven are top of Division Two having picked up 23 points from 10 matches.

Elsewhere tonight, Division Two side Bexhill United will hope to continue their unbeaten start to the season as they travel to mid-table Division One team Shoreham in round two of the Sussex RUR Charity Cup.

The match was originally due to have taken place this time last week, but was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and rearranged for tomorrow only to subsequently be brought forward to tonight.

There is another Division One versus Division Two encounter in the same competition as Little Common travel to Hassocks. All three matches will kick-off at 7.45pm.
