Ramsay hits five in Rye win

Scott Ramsay plundered a remarkable five-goal salvo as Rye United won 5-3 away to Wick on Saturday.

The former Eastbourne Borough and Brighton & Hove Albion talent also hit the post despite playing the last 25 minutes of the Sussex County Football League Division One fixture at centre-half.

After Josh Pelling saved an early penalty, Rye were never behind in a game which had everything. They led 1-0, 4-1 and 5-2 en route to a victory which means they will finish at least third.

In fact, Rye will come second if they pick up four points from their last two games. They travel to Lingfield on Bank Holiday Monday and champions Crawley Down on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Sidley United rounded-off a successful season with a very good 2-1 win at fourth-placed Pagham despite losing captain Danny Spice to injury in the first half. Sean Kelly (penalty) and Paddy Cody scored the goals.

Little Common completed a disappointing Division Two programme with a 3-3 draw away to Steyning Town thanks to a brace of goals from Lewis Hole and one from Casey Ham.

Westfield were denied a top half finish by a 3-0 loss in their final game at Storrington. Bexhill United had already finished their fixtures, but results elsewhere meant they held on to fourth spot.
