Ray: We need to be at our best

Hastings United are well aware of the threat posed by lower grade opponents who stand in the way of a place in the first round proper of the FA Cup.

Blackfield & Langley - one of only two clubs from the fifth tier of the non-league pyramid still in the competition - visit The Pilot Field in the fourth qualifying round tomorrow (Saturday).

Hastings player-boss Sean Ray said: “They’re a good side, they’ve got some good players and their manager Ashley Vickers has got a bit of experience and know-how.

“We’ve had them watched so we know a few bits about them and they’re certainly not going to be a pushover. We’re going to need to be at our best to make sure we win the game.

“If we play to our potential we will win but it’s making sure we play to our potential.”

Blackfield, who have never reached the first round, warmed-up for the big game by beating Westbury United 5-1 in the FA Vase last weekend before running out 4-1 winners against Fareham Town in the Hampshire Senior Cup on Tuesday.
