It was a second straight 2-2 draw for Worthing, after they let a two-goal lead slip to draw with Carshalton at Woodside Road on Saturday.

Rebels joint-boss Gary Elphick was pleased to come away with a point in the end and said: “I think in the end we were pleased to get the point.

“We started really well and went 1-0 up and had a number of chances to make it more before the break.

“But credit to Walton they came back and we lost our way a little bit. I think getting back into the game shows the character that we have in this side.

“We are learning each week as a team and these games are only going to help us a side. We haven’t been at our best in recent weeks but we are not getting beat and that’s the main thing.

“Next up we’ve got Chatham at home and it’s a game we will be looking to get the three points from.”

Rebels remain second in the table and they closed the gap to 13 points on leaders Folkestone Invicta, although the Kent side have a game in hand.

It all started so well for Worthing when forward Dawes got his 18th goal of the campaign on ten minutes to put his side ahead.

Casuals were much-improved in the second half and levelled on 51 minutes. Quincy Rowe, who was making his 83rd club appearance, fired past Rikki Banks.

The turnaround was complete just eight minutes later when Gabriel Odunaike hammered home.

Rebels were not to be denied, though, and ensured a point when Sparks levelled things up at 2-2 with 20 minutes to go.

Worthing welcome 17th placed Chatham Town to Woodside Road on Saturday.
