He signed for Premier League club Liverpool at the age of 16 from Millwall.

Reds head coach Dermot Drummy said: “Yusif Mersin is the keeper we have signed. He started off at Milwall academy and got brought by Liverpool.

“He went off to Kasimpasa in Turkey. He is a young keeper, a good prospect and he has come in to challenge for a position with Glenn Morris and we are looking at one more in that position.

“We are very pleased to get him in and I think he has potential. He has played in the Super League, so experience wise for division two, no, but Glenn Morris has.

“And I believe with the other keeper I am bringing in we will have good competition in that area.”
