After a dismal couple of weeks, in which Ringmer have lost two Cup Semi Finals and in between collected only a point at Shoreham. This result put a smile on the players and the loyal supporters at the club.

Ringmer after several weeks with a below strength side, had Billy Trickett and Louis Pople back in the squad after recent injuries and they boosted the subs bench, to provide more fire power to the squad.

Ringmer kicked off down the slope on a perfect playing pitch and soon put Hassocks under pressure. They should have taken a early lead when Alex Mikolay put a lovely ball through to Sam Blundell, but his effort was thwarted by Hassocks keeper Green. McClean was ever dangerous and caused the Hassocks defenders problems and with Mikolay and Saunders together with Young Jordan Stubbings bossing midfield a goal had to come. After 24 minutes Jack McClean collected the ball in the penalty area, took a few paces and hit home from 15 yards to put Ringmer one up.

Jordan Stubbibgs was getting into good attacking positions and his height was causing anxious moments in the Hassocks defence, buthe could not get any clear chances to cause damage. Dan Bolwell came close, after his 25 yard effort hit the bar and Sam Blundell was booked for diving in the penalty area (must have been watching too much TV). However, he increased the lead after 42 minutes, after a lovely move in the middle of the park put Blundell through and his touch was perfect. As the Hassocks keeper advanced, his coolly lobed his effort dropped into the net to open his account for Ringmer and Their supporters breathed a sigh of relief to go in to half time with a 2 goal advantage.

Hassocks tried gamefully to reduce the deficit after half time, but it was mainly a midfield affair with both teams not creating much of a goal threat. Substitutes Billy Trickett and Louis Pople came on and attempted to unsettle the Hassocks rearguard. In the process,Louis Pople was booked for disputing the linesman’s decision, but could not get a third goal to make the game safe. Young Ben Thompsett was given a run out for last 20 minutes, after several impressive performances for the 1st team.

Hassocks reduced the arrears in the 85th minute, through Michael Gould, but it was too late to alter the result and Ringmer collected 3 welcome points with winger Jack McClean man of the match.
