Rocks make FA Cup progress

The Rocks are in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in seven years after beating Ryman one south rivals Maidstone United 3-2 at Sittingbourne.

They got off to a great start when Terry Dodd finished off a fine flowing move to give them the lead in the 19th minute. Dodd then doubled Bognor’s lead, five minutes later.

Early in the second half, their lead was extended. Nick Reeves’ back pass rolled into the net under the keeper’s foot.

But just as the tie appeared to be over, Tom Mills pulled one back for the hosts, before Baff Addae brought the score back to 3-2 with just seven minutes left.

The Rocks held on, though, for their third Cup win of the season and a place in Monday’s draw. They’re now just two wins away from what would be their first appearance in the first round for well over a decade.

Other FA Cup results included Havant and Waterlooville beating Sholing 4-1 at West Leigh Park and Worthing being held to a 0-0 draw at Woodside Road by Beckenham.

The next round takes place on Saturday, October 15.

In other local football, Pagham continued their 100 per cent record in division one of the Sussex League with a 3-0 home win over Three Bridges.
