Rocks Review: Play-off heartache still fresh in mind as Dulwich return

Nyewood Lane hosts a mouthwatering top-of-the-table clash between two unbeaten sides on Tuesday night as the second-placed Rocks host leaders Dulwich Hamlet in division one.

Only goal difference separates the sides, who have each won six and drawn one of their first seven games.

Extra spice is added by the fact Dulwich Hamlet won 3-1 at Nyewood Lane in the play-offs last May to deny the Rocks a chance of promotion to the Ryman premier - that despite finishing 31 points below the Rocks in the final table.

The Rocks have no new injuries, which means Chris Breach and Lewis Ide are vying for the midfield spot vacated by James Fraser, who left for Whitehawk last week, and Luke Nightingale is pushing for a start at the expense of either Terry Dodd or Jason Prior up front - after all three strikers scored in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Whyteleafe.

Rocks joint boss Jamie Howell was delighted with the 4-0 win at Whyteleafe and says the players are ready for the challenge Dulwich will bring.

“They were deserved winners in the play-off game - they had the momentum and we were struggling mentally after not clinching the title on the last day,” said Howell.

“But this is a new game and a new season and we’re looking forward to taking them on our own patch again.

“I don’t think it’ll be a game where we get a lot of chances - so we must make sure we take one or two that come our way.”
