After waiting years for a prestigious pre-season friendly, Lewes fans now have the chance to take in two in the space of four nights.
Having made a success of last (Tuesday) night’s sell-out match with Brighton & Hove Albion, the Rooks now take on the Seagulls’ bitterest rivals, Crystal Palace, at the Dripping Pan on Friday night.
The match was arranged yesterday around lunchtime when the Eagles’ scheduled match in the south west was called off due to the wet weather.
It is believed good links between the two sides are behind Palace’s decision to pick Lewes as opponents, following Bayan Fenwick’s move from the Dripping Pan to Selhurst Park last season.
Apparently a club official from Palace rang the Pan yesterday lunchtime to ask if Lewes could arrange a friendly with the Croydon-based Championship side on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday of this week. Because of the Rooks’ pre-arranged match with Dover Athletic on the Saturday, the clubs chose a Friday evening kick off. The Dover game – also at the Dripping Pan – will still go ahead.
The match will be a 7.30pm kick off and Lewes FC report via the club’s website that the Eagles are expected to bring a strong squad to the Dripping Pan.
Ticket prices for the game will be £8 Adults, £4 Concessions and Under 16s go free. Lewes FC will also be donating some of the proceeds of this game to the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund.
There will be no advance tickets and entry is all pay on the gate.
The Lewes FC website said: “In light of this additional game to the pre-season schedule, the prices for the Dover and Crawley XI matches have been amended to £5 adults, £3 concession and kids free.
“A decision on pricing for the Eastbourne match will be made in due course.”
