Rory’s injury takes gloss off Mullets’ cup win

ARUNDEL Football Club reached the quarter-finals of the Sussex RUR Cup on Tuesday evening, although manager Simon Butler admitted the win was marred by a nasty injury to Rory Biggs.

Mullets’ midfielder suffered a broken ankle and knee ligament damage during the 4-1 win against Midhurst and Butler said: “I was very pleased with the performance but Rory’s injury takes the gloss off it. He will be a big loss as he’s been one of our most influential players this season.”

Scott Tipper gave Arundel the lead from Jordan Clark’s cross on 25 minutes, before captain Lloyd Walker had an effort ruled out for offside three minutes later.

Tipper was then denied by the offside flag, before Biggs was forced off on 40 minutes.

Midhurst levelled through Lawrence Hyde’s penalty, after Liam Da Costa was adjudged to have handled, two minutes later but Mullets still led at the break.

Tipper fired home a spot-kick on the stroke of half-time after Barney Boutwood was brought down.

Walker made it 3-1 from Clark’s cross on 50 minutes, before Clark netted the fourth with a 25-yard free kick on 80 minutes.

Mullets will travel to Lancing in the last eight.
