Rye held to frustrating draw

RYE United have lost further ground in their quest for the Sussex County Football League title.

The Quarterboys are 11 points behind Division One leaders Pagham after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Lancing on Saturday.

Sam Adams gave Rye, who fielded striker Scott Ramsay in goal, the perfect start, but missed chances again proved costly as Lancing equalised later in the first half.

Elsewhere, Josh Willis saved an 84th minute penalty to earn Sidley United a 0-0 draw at home to Worthing United in the same division.

Little Common are through to round three of the Sussex Senior Cup after goals from Jamie Crone (2) and Jordan Wood gave them a 3-1 win at home to Southwick.

Despite falling behind to a first minute penalty, Bexhill United won 2-1 away to Hailsham Town in round two of the Sussex Division Two Challenge Cup.

Paul Rogers and Dominic Clarke were on target for Bexhill, but Clarke’s former club, Westfield, lost 4-0 away to Storrington in round one of the same competition.
