Rye hit by Loft injury scare

Rye United are sweating on the outcome of an injury scare to their captain.

Shaun Loft, pictured, suffered a dislocated shoulder during the second half of the Sussex County Football League Division One match at home to AFC Uckfield on Wednesday night.

The 34-year-old went to attack an aerial ball, but an Uckfield opponent ran across his line and the subsequent collision caused a nasty injury. The referee actually gave a free kick against Loft, though.

Rye manager Scott Price said: “He didn’t even know where he was. He’s hoping his shoulder isn’t as bad as first thought, but if it doesn’t go back in properly, it’s going to need operating.”

Price does have options in the centre of defence, but he will be desperately hoping that Loft doesn’t face an extended spell on the sidelines, particularly with the FA Vase clash against Three Bridges coming up next weekend.
