The Sussex County Football League Division One match was postponed twice previously due to waterlogged pitches and has now been called-off for a third time as a result of fog.

The problem wasn’t just confined to The Salts, though, because the Ryman Football League Division One South games at Herne Bay and Sittingbourne, plus a Sussex County League John O’Hara League Challenge Cup tie at Ringmer were abandoned for the same reason.

The postponement merely continues a hugely frustrating few months for Rye. After a catalogue of postponements from late December until early March because of all the wet weather, they are still struggling to get the games played even now the rain has relented for the past 10 days.

Rye did play at home to Hassocks on Saturday, but Tuesday night’s visit from Newhaven was abandoned in the second half owing to a floodlight failure and they didn’t even get started tonight despite the lovely sunny weather during the day.

Both Rye and Hailsham still have 16 league games to cram in before the end of the season, and Rye also have a Sussex RUR Charity Cup quarter-final away to Horsham YMCA which has now been put back 24 hours to next Wednesday (March 19).
