Rye out to sting Wasps

Rye United tackle a pivotal game in their quest for a runners-up finish tonight (Wednesday).

The Quarterboys travel to East Grinstead Town needing a win to strengthen their hopes of coming second in Division One of the Sussex County Football League for the third time in eight seasons.

Currently in sixth place after the fine 2-1 victory away to fourth-placed Three Bridges on Easter Monday, Rye will definitely finish second if they win their final four matches.

Three wins and a draw could well be enough, and two wins and a draw might do it if Peacehaven & Telscombe lose their final game against Selsey and Pagham fail to beat Sidley United.

Grinstead themselves are not completely out of the running for second, but they would need to win all of their four remaining fixtures and hope that Selsey get something against Peacehaven.

Ben Radley is struggling for fitness after coming off with ankle and knee injuries during the first half against Bridges, but the good news is that Shaun Loft made his first appearance since March 12 as his replacement.

Matt Maclean may also come back into the equation having been unavailable on Monday. Kick-off at East Court is 7.30pm and the result will appear on this website tomorrow morning.

If the game is half as good as the reverse fixture, it should be well worth watching. On that occasion, Rye pulled off a spectacular turnaround from 2-0 down to triumph 5-2 at Tunbridge Wells FC back in October.

Elsewhere tonight, Westfield reserves take on Peasmarsh & Iden in a Robertsbridge Charity Cup semi-final. Last night, Little Common reserves won 4-2 against Hollington United in the Hastings FA Intermediate Cup final.
