Rye seek return to winning ways

Faltering Rye United will attempt to get their season going again when they host Arundel tonight (Wednesday).

Although admittedly faced with a punishing fixture schedule, the Quarterboys have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions.

Tonight’s game in Division One of the Sussex County Football League will be Rye’s 11th outing in the space of 23 days and 51st of the season. Kick-off at The Salts is 7.45pm.

Three points wouldn’t be enough to improve on their present position of seventh, but would at least nudge Rye closer to the teams above them. Currently in 12th place, victory would take Arundel up to ninth.

The only game involving any of the area’s Sussex League clubs last night saw Bexhill United reserves win 4-1 at home to their Newhaven counterparts thanks to goals from Joe Lyttle (2), Linton Rogers and Brad Freeman.

Rye’s scheduled reserve team clash at home to Pease Pottage Village tomorrow (Thursday) has already been postponed because the opposition are unable to raise a side.
