Rye target defensive duo

Rye United manager Scott Price is tracking a pair of central defenders.

Price is expecting to find out later today (Thursday) whether Ryan Alexander or Steve Thomson will be moving to The Salts.

Speaking this morning, Price said: “Ryan’s having today to think about it. I’m quite confident that he will sign; he seemed interested enough. He just wants a day to think about it, same with Steve Thomson.”

A Sussex County Football League winner with Eastbourne United AFC in 2008/09, 25-year-old Alexander, from Eastbourne, began the season with Hailsham Town and is now playing for East Sussex League outfit Langney Wanderers.

Thomson has made a big impression since joining Westfield in the summer having spent the early part of last season with Little Common.

Steve Dallaway, a wide player from Hailsham, trained on Tuesday night but is unlikely to join and last week’s seven-day approach for Sidley United defender Zack McEniry was unsuccessful.

Price plans to give recent signing Josh Willis his first outing in goal as Rye make the long trip to Selsey in the league on Saturday, although Ollie Jones is still his number one at present.

Jack Sullivan and Jack Hope are expected to be fit, but fellow Maidstone United starlet Martins Remess won’t be returning.
