Rye win keeps title hopes alive

Rye United kept their title hopes alive with a 5-2 win at home to St Francis Rangers on Saturday.

Matt Maclean and Sam Adams (penalty) were on target for Rye as the first half ended 2-2 before Liam Upton, Scott Ramsay and Adams made sure of the victory.

Rye’s Sussex County Football League Division One title rivals Three Bridges came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Pagham so Rye are two points clear having played two more games.

Elsewhere, Little Common made sure of finishing outside the two relegation places in Division Two with a 2-0 win at Storrington. Both goals came in the last 20 minutes through Jared Lusted and Sam Brown.

Bexhill United moved up to sixth courtesy of a 3-2 success at home to Steyning Town. Dan Hill, Dominic Clarke and Ashley Kidman were on target, the latter scoring his first senior goal.

Westfield are virtually certain to finish no lower than 13th after winning by the same score at home to Loxwood. Gordon Cuddington, Joe Barham and Sam Willett scored the goals, the latter in the 90th minute.
