Seaford Town make a splash with new mascot

Seaford beach has been visited by many seals over the years but this is the first time a 6ft tall seal has reached the football pitch.

Seaford Town FC run a competition in the summer for their 300 youth players to design a new club mascot. With entries ranging from monsters to sea horses, ultimately the clubs committee voted for Planksy the Seal, an entry from U9s player Harrison.

Harrison said “I chose it because I have been seeing seals on the beach and there have been art people putting up art in Seaford” – referring to Seaford’s secretive artist Planksie who places colourfully painted bird art around the town.

Club Secretary Andy Stiles said “Our youth section has a lot of personality and we wanted to give the players something fun to enjoy. Planksy is going to be a great addition to the club and shows the community that we are family focused and want our players to feel proud representing their town.”

It is thanks to local landscaping business CWJ Landscapes that Planksy was able to come into creation with their mascot sponsorship. Mark Patton of CWJ said “I have been involved with Seaford Town Football Club for 14 years and it is a real pleasure to sponsor the new club mascot. I’m looking forward to seeing Planksy visiting the schools and on the pitch nodding in a goal or two!”.

The club will be renaming their youngest team from the tots to ‘The Pups’. The Pups coach boys and girls aged 4, 5 & 6 introducing them to the beautiful game.
