Seagulls star Olding set for LA date with England

Hollie Olding has been selected by England women under-17s for a tournament in Los Angeles.

John Griffiths’ side will travel to America this month for matches against Japan, South Korea and the host nation.

The round-robin competition, known as the Under-17 Women’s NTC Invitational, will act as preparation for the team’s final round of Euro qualifiers in March.

The Three Lions progressed from the first round of qualifying fixtures with ease, winning 13-0 twice, against Croatia and Estonia, and drawing 2-2 with Poland.

Chichester teenager Olding, who plays for Brighton’s women’s team, played the full 80 minutes in the games against Croatia and Poland, while she also scored during her half against Estonia.

In the second qualifying round, they will face Serbia, Iceland and Belgium for a spot at the finals which take place in May in Belarus.

England will begin the NTC Invitational against USA on Friday, February 12 (2am GMT).

This is followed by fixtures against Japan on Saturday 13 (11pm GMT) and South Korea on Monday 15 (8pm GMT).

The Chichester High School for Girls student said: “To go to America and play football will be an incredible experience.

“We have a really strong squad and I can’t wait to go over there and test ourselves against three great sides.

“I’ve been involved in every England camp (since her début in November 2014) and they have all been great experiences, so I’m really looking forward to going away with the team again.

“I think we have a good chance of getting some results and building some momentum ahead of the second round of qualifiers.”
