Selsey boss upbeat despite a blank Blues day

Despite hitting the woodwork several times, including Dan Hegarty heading against the crossbar, Ian Martin’s side couldn’t find the winner – but they have still lost only twice in their past six games.

And manager Martin says there is no reason for the high standard of performances to end. He told the Observer: “Every point we gain is a bonus – we have to look at that as a positive.

“I think we edged the game. I wouldn’t say it was a fair scoreline. We certainly had more chances and hit the woodwork a few times.

“We were the only time that tried to play football really – they were a bit basic in their tactics. The pitch wasn’t conducive to playing football.”

Next opponents Three Bridges, though in a lofty league position as they host the Blues this Saturday, have lost three of their past four league games, conceding 12 goals in the process.

On the other hand, Crawley Down, who visit Selsey on Saturday week, have won all but one of their games in 2011 – their one defeat coming to Three Bridges in January, and they have scored 30 goals in eight games.

Martin will be relieved then to have his side at nearly full strength with injuries and suspensions clearing.

He said: “We’re still on a good run because we’ve got a lot of harmony in the team and people know what their jobs are.

“We’re playing quite well and there is no reason realistically why we shouldn’t carry on in the same vein of performances.

“With a few players back this week hopefully we’ll be a bit stronger and will go into the game with a good, positive attitude.”
