Selsey pegged back as winning run ends

AFTER three straight wins, Selsey started comfortably at Ringmer in division one of the Sussex League.

Matt Wood shot over after five minutes and Tom Lyons’ shot was saved by Sam Joyce after 11 minutes.

Selsey took the lead on 28 minutes when Rob Wimble played in Marco Giambelardini, who cut the ball back for Danny Towers to sidefoot home.

Towers had another shot blocked and slightly against the run of play Ringmer’s Marc Whiteman levelled in the 41st minute after good work by Watson.

The Blues regained the lead a minute later when Wimble shot home after keeper Allfrey spilled Giambelardini’s free-kick.

Joyce kept Selsey in front, thwarting Lyons.

But six minutes from the end a cross wasn’t cleared and Lee Wood rifled his shot in 12 yards, despite Haggar’s valiant effort to keep it out.

Selsey should have won it when Wimble got clear but his lob over the stranded Allfrey went wide.
