Goals from Lewis Finney and Alex Fair helped Lancers to a 2-1 victory at Southern Combination League Premier Division basement boys Hailsham Town.

It was Lancing’s first game since suffering a 7-1 home humiliation at the hands of league rivals Horsham YMCA in the FA Vase second round the previous week.

Sharman was pleased with the response his team served up and said: “The most important thing was to pick up the three points and we managed to do that.

“I think the scoreline flattered them a little bit and had we taken our chances, it could well have been a lot more convincing.

“It was vital we bounced back after a heavy defeat last time out, which we did.

“Credit to the players they showed their commitment and determination to this club by going out and getting the three points.

“Conditions got quite tricky towards the end of the game and Hailsham is never an easy place to go at any point.”

A neat turn and finish from Finney fired Lancing ahead after 24 minutes.

Back came Hailsham, though, with Billy Crittenden levelling things up eight minutes before the break.

Lancers were not to be denied the three points and Fair got the winner on 53 minutes.
