Alex Fair’s strike and Lewis Finney’s retaken penalty ensured Lancers made it three Southern Combination League Premier Division successes in just seven days with a 2-0 triumph.

Sharman’s side kicked things off with a win at basement boys Hailsham Town the previous week, before victories over Hassocks and Wick.

Lancers boss Sharman has been delighted with his side’s showing in the last seven days and said: “It was great to cap this week of fixtures off with another victory.

“We’ve had two tough away trips going to both Hailsham and Wick and a hard home game with Hassocks.

“Last year we won 1-0 at Wick with a really good side, so to run out 2-0 winners with players out through suspension, injuries and unavailability was a great effort.

“Young Elliott Bennett and Doug Costen were both handed their first senior starts. In a game that got quite meaty at times, I think we coped really well and were deserved winners.

“It caps off a really good run of results for us and gives us a platform to build from now.”

Wick started well but Lancing keeper Taylor D’Cruz denied them with a couple of early saves.

Lancers found things tough going and a couple of efforts from Doug Costen and a strike from Fair were the closest they went in the first half.

Sharman’s side were much-improved in the second half and went ahead on the hour.

Finney and Fair exchanged passes just outside the penalty area, with the former firing a low strike past Lewis Boughton to make it 1-0.

Lancers were then handed a chance to double their lead ten minutes later. Skipper George Fenton went on a rampaging run before being tripped in the area with a penalty awarded by referee Wayne Webb.

Finney saw his spot-kick saved by Boughton, only for the linesman to flag for a retake, with Finney making no mistake at the second time of asking.

D’Cruz was called into action late on but Lancing held on for a third win on the bounce.

Having collected maximum points in their last three matches, Lancers now have a break before returning to action with a trip to Broadbridge Heath on December 10.

Despite the great recent run, Sharman believes a break will be welcomed: “We’ve won our last three games but this break comes at a great time for us.

“We’ve had a tough week, picked up a few injuries and have got a few players suspended, so hopefully we’ll return to action with some players back and ready to go for a busy period to come.”

LANCING: D’Cruz; Donaldson, Bygraves, Sharman, Fenton; Bennett, Berry, Williamson; Fair, Finney, Costen. Subs: Frankling (Costen), E.Finney, Baah.
