Sidley draw; Westies in final

Sidley United picked up a home league draw, while Westfield beat Little Common in cup action last night (Tuesday).

Sidley were eager to atone for Saturday’s disappointing defeat against Chichester City in Sussex County Football League Division One and got off to the perfect start as Ricky Martin put them ahead inside two minutes at home to St Francis Rangers.

Charlie Pitcher got top half outfit Saints back on level terms inside the quarter-hour mark and Aaron Walsh put them ahead on the hour. Sidley hit back within two minutes, however, as Terry Payne earned them a 2-2 draw from an entertaining contest.

Just down the road, Westfield ran out 3-0 winners away to fellow Sussex County Football League Division Two side Little Common in the first Hastings & District FA Senior Cup semi-final.

After a goalless first half, Common had leading scorer Jamie Crone sent-off in the second period and Westfield prevailed thanks to goals from Lawrence Brand, Mike Booth and Zach Ferris.

Westfield will face Sidley or Bexhill United, who will meet in the other last four tie on Thursday March 21, in the final on a date to be announced. See Friday’s Observers for full reports on both matches.
