Sidley ride luck to grab win

Sidley United rode their luck a touch before running out 2-0 winners at home to Dorking Wanderers on Saturday.

Dorking missed several chances and had an effort disallowed for offside before goals in the closing 15 minutes from Ricky Martin and Kevin Rose gave Sidley all three Sussex County Football League Division One points.

Little Common moved up to fourth in Division Two on the back of a 4-2 success away to Mile Oak. Lewis Hole put Common in front with a header from Russell Eldridge’s free kick.

Common struck twice more in quick succession before half time. Jerome Smith made it 2-0 from Jared Lusted’s free kick and Jamie Crone flicked the ball over his shoulder before firing home the third.

Mile Oak pulled one back at the start of the second period, but Crone made the points safe by scoring a fourth Common goal with 10 minutes remaining. The hosts nabbed a late consolation.

Also in Division Two, Bexhill United had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Oakwood. Andy Garman put Bexhill ahead in the second half with a wonderful solo goal only for Oakwood to reply with a penalty 10 minutes from time.

Westfield’s five-match winning run in the same division was ended by a 3-2 loss at home to leaders Newhaven. Tom Archer and Danny Woodley scored for a Westfield side which was denied by a late Newhaven winner.
